Dendritic Treatment

Dendritic treatment is an experimental treatment which aims to get the immune system back on board and recognising cancer cells as a threat. Glioblastoma is incredibly sophisticated at disguising itself and currently there are no typical cancer treatments which are considered effective. After following the standard treatment of surgery to remove the tumour, radiation and chemotherapy, the tumour continues to be unresponsive to these. We have consulted with IOZK in Cologne, Germany who have given great information about the potential for Dendritic treatment to be effective in hard to fight cancers. Prior to the Dendritic vaccine, Mum will have a blood test where they run diagnostics and created a personalised treatment to aid in the efficacy of the vaccine.

The initial vaccine process will take a couple of weeks, from then we hope to do a couple of monthly maintenance treatments. We have also discussed with IOZK about the fact that we are unable to do the continuous monthly maintenance vaccinations after that time. Obviously, we would love this treatment to be closer to home and are balancing the benefit of treatment with the invaluable time spent at home as a family. IOZK have advised that while we may not be able to do this monthly maintenance with them, even keeping up with the supportive treatments within New Zealand would be beneficial.

These ongoing maintenance treatments won't be funded under the public system and will be an ongoing cost to factor in to fundraising.​
